5 Tips For People In Recovery Who Are Too Busy For Meetings

February 19, 2016 - , , , - 0 Comments

Life can be extremely busy for people of all ages, and this is true of individuals who are in recovery. Such people may believe that they are too busy to attend meetings. However, there are a few tips to keep in mind when thinking about meetings.

Meetings Provide Direction to Individuals

Before you consider skipping meetings, remember that meetings are designed to provide guidance. Remember that the road to recovery is one that is not always straight. There are twists and turns that can be quite unexpected. You may find it easy to wander off the road and do something else. However, meetings provide you with direction in where you should go. Meetings let everyone in a group understand that twists and turns are to be expected, and each one can be handled properly.

Meetings Give Hope

Although you are in recovery, it is understandable that there may be feelings of hopelessness or that relapsing will occur soon. The great news is that meetings give hope to people. Some members have been going to meetings for years, and they are living proof that you can have hope even though circumstances seem hopeless.

Meetings Keep People Accountable

Accountability is important in many professionals and relationships. The same is true for those in recovery. Meetings keep you accountable. It can provide motivation when there is an urge to go backwards. Accountability means that people care enough for you that they ask how things are going for you in your recovery.

Meetings are Accessible

Although some may believe that meetings are only a certain time of night, the reality is that meetings are available different days of the week at different times. People are busy, but individuals have options that can fit in the busyness of life.

Meetings Provide Reminders

People need to be reminded about many things in life. This is true of recovery as well. Individuals need to be reminded of where they were and how easy it is to relapse. Meetings serve a purpose of reminding people of where they are today and how things were in the past. A consistent reminder can keep you in recovery.

It does take commitment to stay with attending meetings. However, the effort is worth it. People notice a difference in their lives when they decide to make meetings an important priority.
